Partnership for Healthcare Excellence
Overview:
The Partnership for Healthcare Excellence (PHCE) is a collaborative research-driven initiative designed to help Massachusetts consumers improve the quality, safety and effectiveness of the health care they and their families receive.
Three essential components comprise PHCE’s mission:
- Educate the public about variations in the quality of healthcare;
- Encourage consumers to become more informed and involved in their own care; and
- Overtime, empower consumers to become advocates for the overall change necessary to improve the safety and effectiveness of the health care system.
We liken the patient engagement/empowerment movement to similar movements including those focused on smoking, drunk driving and seat belt use. If the Partnership is successful in achieving its mission, patient engagement and empowerment will become embedded within the DNA of the health care culture in much the same way that constructive shifts in behaviors and attitudes toward these issues have been embedded in the broad cultural landscape of our nation.
Current projects:
- A statewide campaign that leverages partnerships with members of our Leadership Council. These efforts are complemented by a statewide earned media effort, online initiatives, as well as corporate and retail partnerships.
- A more focused, intensive campaign in selected markets where we combine paid advertising with community events, local partnerships and other grassroots activities
- Quantitative market research to track and measure the impact of our campaigning.
- Qualitative and quantitative research into consumer awareness and beliefs about “overuse” of imaging and antibiotics.
- Support of state initiatives and priorities involving consumer engagement, including transitions, end of life, and the Health Care Quality and Cost Council’s Road Map to Cost Containment.
