Massachusetts Senior Care Foundation

Overview:

The mission of the Massachusetts Senior Care Foundation is to promote innovative tools, services, programs and research related to clinical and workforce quality across the continuum of care for older adults and people with disabilities. Through partnerships with professional, government and academic organizations the Foundation provides critical leadership to the health care community in the form of research grants, scholarships, education, quality improvement programs and consumer-focused resources.

Current projects:

  • The INTERACT II project (supported by a grant from the Commonwealth Fund) is currently in the demonstration phase in 30 nursing homes: 10 in New York, 10 in Florida, and 10 in Massachusetts. Collaboration with researchers and informaticians at the University of Pittsburgh is underway, to examine ways to migrate the INTERACT II tools and resources into an electronic format. Several Massachusetts Senior Care members are participating in this initiative.
  • Many Massachusetts Senior Care members are also examining ways to develop or enhance electronic medical records and documentation of care processes within their facilities. The Foundation is working with the Massachusetts Health Data Consortium (MHDC), the American Health Care Association (AHCA), and other organizations to provide resources on various EMR systems to members looking to invest in new technology. Specifically, the meaningful use issues among hospitals, nursing homes and home health agencies are of concern to members wanting to invest in systems that will ensure smooth data transfer as patients move between settings. Participation on the Secretary’s Massachusetts HIT Commission is anticipated.
