Massachusetts Health IT Landscape

The Landscape of Massachusetts Non-Profit HIT Organizations & Coalitions

Massachusetts has several non-profit organizations involved in health information technology, health information exchange, quality improvement, and policy development related to these three topics. It is a strength of the Massachusetts healthcare community that there are so many organizations involved in these efforts, but there may be confusion about these organizations and their specific roles, responsibilities, and projects.

The purpose of this wiki is to give these organizations an opportunity to explain their role in the context of the Massachusetts healthcare community and cite some current projects that illustrate this role, and for the reader to gain an understanding of the diversity of these non-profit organizations and how they collaborate to enhance technology, improve quality of care, and inspire innovation.

The richness of the Massachusetts HIT, HIE, quality improvement, and policy development community is of course broader than non-profit organizations and multi-stakeholder coalitions, and includes academic institutions, think tanks, vendors, and world-class provider organizations. However, we believe that this landscape of non-profit organizations will be a useful guide and will help clarify who these various organizations are, what their missions are, and what projects are underway to expand HIT and HIE and to improve quality of care.
